How do I set my shipping costs, with TWM as a Dutch supplier?

Shipping costs are often a tricky side effect when running a dropshipping webshop: what shipping costs do you charge? Is it more convenient to include shipping costs in the sales price? How do I deal with different packages and sizes? In this blog you can read how you can best set your shipping costs if you use TWM as your Dutch supplier. 

Shipping costs at TWM

TWM ships throughout almost all of Europe. This Dutch dropshipping supplier charges different rates per country and per package type. Below are the rates for shipping to the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, per package. 

What exactly do the different types of packages mean and how do I translate them to the shipping settings in Shopify? That depends on the weight of the products in the order in Shopify. In principle, you can set your shipping costs in Shopify exactly as shown in the table above.

Shipping labels in the GOGETTERS Dropshipping App

In order to be able to charge the shipping rates per order to your customer who orders something on your webshop, fictitious weights have been added to the TWM products in our dashboard. These fictitious weights are not the exact weights of the products, but they do ensure that you can set your shipping settings in Shopify better than before. 

These fictitious weights are divided into labels. Every TWM product in our system contains one of these labels with the corresponding weight:

XS = 1 KG

s = 5 KG

m = 35 KG

l = 60 KG

XL = 80 KG

Suppose your customer orders five products with the label S as a fictitious weight (5 kg per product). Then the total fictitious weight will be 25 kg. As shown in the table earlier in this blog, there can be up to 34.99 kg of fictitious weight in a small package at TWM.

This means that an order can contain a maximum of 6 products with a fictitious weight of 5 kg (total 30 kg fictitious weight), in order to pay the shipping costs of a small package at TWM. That way it also works for medium packages, large packages and pallets. The fictitious weight of the products in the order is added together. The shipping costs for the relevant order are calculated on the basis of this.

How do I set my shipping costs within Shopify, based on TWM's rates?

You set your shipping costs as follows, in your Shopify account:

1. Log in to your Shopify account.
2. Click on the 'Settings' tab at the bottom left.
3. Go to 'Shipping and Delivery'.
4. Under 'Shipping' click on 'Manage rates'.
5. Under 'Shipping from' you select the GOGETTERS location in your webshop.
6. Then click on 'Create shipping zone' and choose the country for which you want to set the rates. Suppose you deliver to Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, the advice is to set up three 'shipping zones'. Each country has its own shipping rates.
7. Choose the country for which you want to set the rates and click on 'done'.
8. Select 'add rates' and set 'rates' per package type. Choose 'set up your own rates' and 'add conditions'. Use the table in this blog for that.
9. Under 'add conditions' you can set the weights per package as shown in the table. You can specify a shipping rate for each type of package.
10. Click on 'Save'. As soon as an order is placed, Shopify automatically calculates which shipping rate applies to your order.

Finally, your shipping settings will look like the screenshot below. In this example we have used the Dutch shipping rates of TWM with corresponding weights:
